Policy and Regulatory Framework for Microfinance in Syria

Syria’s momentum toward financial reform and liberalization, along with the commitment of key policy makers to expand microfinance, portend a positive future for the economy and the country’s working poor.

Numerous options exist to spur further improvements and development of the microfinance sector. A strategic mix of technical assistance, high-level consensus building, and training and education would help to improve performance within the sector; bolster the understanding and capacity of implementers, regulators, and policymakers; increase transparency among microfinance providers (MFPs); and integrate Syria’s microfinance sector into the global microfinance industry.
