The Asia Foundation Book Launch - Built on Dreams, Grounded in Reality: Economic Policy Reform in the Philippines

February 29, 2012 9:15am - 11:00am

The Asia Foundation’s new book Built on Dreams, Grounded in Reality is a set of case studies by development practitioners and academics focused on trying to uncover why some Philippine economic policy reforms succeeded while others failed. Several of the authors will discuss the Foundation’s approach to economic policy reform which is a combination of technical analysis, political economy analysis and political action. The cases trace the political battles involved in five successful and two unsuccessful reform efforts in telecommunications, sea transport, civil aviation, water privatization, property rights legislation, tax administration and the grain sector.

For many years, USAID has partnered with the Foundation in supporting some groundbreaking policy reforms in the Philippines. The book is published by The Asia Foundation with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and AusAID.
