eSeminar on Business and Peace

The Business and Peace Initiative recently published this report summarizing their work up to this point, including February 2011 task force meetings and this March 2011 eSeminar.  To see how the eSeminar unfolded, click on the links below (topics and dates noted below).  You can still provide feedback on the conversation via the "comment" feature of the webpage.  In order to comment, you must register with INEC.

The Sustainable Economies Center of Innovation at the U.S. Institute of Peace hosted this online conference which went from March 14-25, 2011.  The conference built off of a set of meetings of the Business and Peace Taskforce, which was created by the U.S. Institute of Peace in partnership with George Washington University's Institute for Corporate Responsibility to develop clear and effective strategies that align business activity in fragile/conflict-affected regions with sustained efforts to promote lasting peace.  The Business and Peace Taskforce has drafted issue-summary papers based on three research questions:

  1. How do we understand the business-peace nexus?
  2. How do businesses overcome specific challenges in conflict-affected environments?
  3. How do we create a level playing field for businesses in conflict-affected regions/countries?

We posted these issue-summary papers online and solicited comments, discussions and recommendations from taskforce members as well as the online INEC community.  Each question was the focus of discussion for three days.  The discussion will be the basis for the Business and Peace taskforce’s second round of meetings in April.
